Man Jailed for Attempted Shop Robbery in Market Harborough

A Market Harborough man who threatened a shopkeeper with a knife during an attempted robbery has been jailed for more than three years.

Simon Harrald entered Keya News on Logan Street on the evening of January 22nd and demanded money from the till, while wearing a scarf over his face and disposable gloves.

When assistant Dhruvil Patel refused to open the till he fled empty-handed and was arrested two days later.

The attempted robbery was captured on CCTV

Mr Patel was not physically injured but was left shaken by the incident.

Harrald, 34, of Andrew Macdonald Close, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possessing a knife in a public place.

He also admitted further offences in Leicester, including possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery, attempting to rob a man, and stealing gold rings from H Samuels and Warren James jewellers.

Harrald was sentenced to three years and two months in prison at Leicester Crown Court yesterday.
