Man Jailed For ‘Abhorrent’ Attacks On Medic & Police Officer

A man who assaulted a paramedic in Desborough and punched a police officer has been jailed for 18 weeks.

Gary Fox, 54, lashed out at the East Midlands Ambulance Service medic while being treated in Dunkirk Avenue on July 28^th last year.

The then attacked a Police officer when he arrived at Kettering General Hospital, also shouting racist remarks at them.

Northampton Magistrates’ Court heard a few days earlier Fox was arrested after trouble flared at the Thai Garden restaurant in Rothwell.

When told he couldn’t sit in for his meal, as it was takeaway, only he became angry, swearing and shouting at staff, before pushing one worker and hitting another on the shoulder.

Fox, of Highfield Crescent on Kettering, admitted a number of charges at Northampton Magistrates Court. including four of assaulting an emergency worker.

Northamptonshire Police have welcomed the sentence.

A spokesman told Hfm: “Gary Fox’s behaviour on both of these days was abhorrent and he should feel deeply ashamed for attacking members of the emergency services and making vile and racist comments towards them.

“The emergency services go to work to protect and help people.”Being assaulted will never be considered as ‘part of the job’ and we will always pursue people who put their safety at risk.”
