A man’s been banned from entering the majority of Market Harborough, after assaulting Police officers and being a public nuisance.

Leigh Marlow has been made the subject of a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years.

The 35-year-old, who caused widespread anger last year when he damaged the iconic ‘Tommy’ silhouette soldier by the War Memorial on The Square , now faces arrest if he breaches it.

The only exception to the ban is for him to visit a person known to him at an address in Bowden Lane.

The order also prevents Marlow, of Aikman Close, Leicester, from causing harassment to any female he doesn’t know or being drunk in the public place.

Magistrates granted the order after an application by Harborough Police.

Sergeant Peter Jelbert spoke to Hfm:

In October last year, Marlow pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting an emergency worker and one count of causing criminal damage at Leicester Magistrates’ Court.

He was given a one-year community order, which included an alcohol treatment programme.

The Criminal Behaviour Order bans him from:

  • Entering any part of Market Harborough, as shown on the below map, unless he is visiting a person known to him at an address in Bowden Lane
  • Causing harassment, alarm, distress, pestering or intimidating or speaking any offensive, lude or obscene language to any female in a public place who is not previously known to him. If he is told by any female to stop, desist or leave them alone or the reaction of the female suggested they did not want to engage or communicate, he must not engage or communicate further
  • Being drunk or consuming alcohol in any public place other than a licensed premises.

Area subject to Community Behaviour Order

Anyone witnessing Marlow breaching the terms of his order should call Police on 101.
