Man arrested for illegal sheep butchery

Northamptonshire Police say a man has been arrested – as their
investigations into illegal sheep butchery in the county continue.

It’s after a spate of incidents over the past five months where meat
thieves have slaughtered more than a hundred lambs in their fields –
including recent cases on farms at Kelmarsh and Clipston.

Police report a 40-year-old Hampshire man was arrested on suspicion of
criminal damage and theft as part of ‘Operation Stock’.

However the suspect has now been released “under investigation” whilst
inquiries are ongoing – with police investigators and the Rural Crime
Team promising to “work tirelessly to bring those responsible to
justice”.

Meantime, Harborough Police has revealed that cases of illegal sheep
butchery HAVE occurred in the Harborough District – in the Lutterworth
area – and are warning local farmers to be on their guard.

Speaking on Harborough Beat, PC Malc Roberts told HFM it’s been
happening over a wide area – in rural locations – which has made
policing difficult.
