Decision on Desborough Library funding tonight

An extraordinary meeting of Desborough Council tonight (Thursday 25th July) will decide whether or not it should help to buy the town’s library.
Northamptonshire County Council is disposing of a number of its libraries as part of cost-cutting measures – and handing over the running to community groups.
Desborough Library and Community Hub – the charity set up to take over control of the library – is asking the Town Council to use over £210,000 from its reserves to help buy the High Street building.
The council is said to be split on whether to use almost half of its reserves to keep the library open – especially as it’s proposed the ownership of the building would be given to the library charity, rather than Desborough Town Council.
