Major Repairs To Symington Building Begin

Major work costing over £1m has started today to renovate and restore parts of Market Harborough’s historic Symington Building.
The nine-month project will see repairs to external masonry, the roof and bell tower of the Victorian building on Adam and Eve Street and windows will also be replaced.
Scaffolding is being erected on the front of the building and a work compound has been created in the Symington Way car park.

Hoardings will also be put in place to allow for the work to take place safely, although access to the building will remain as normal during the works.
The former corset factory, built in 1889, serves as the headquarters of Harborough District Council also houses the Harborough Museum, library, job centre, coffee shop, a banking hub and Citizens Advice Centre.
Harborough District Council is spending £1.1m on the repairs and council leader Phil Knowles spoke to HFM:

“The Symington Building is Grade II listed and an important building which should be cared for and looked after.”
