A major development in the north of the Harborough District is being recommended for the go-ahead despite objections from over 100 people.

230 new homes are planned for 47 acres of land either side of the A47 Uppingham Road in Houghton on the Hill, along with shops, a GP surgery and 70-bed care home.

114 letters of objection have been sent to Harborough District Council, with concerns including the loss of the countryside and the impact on roads in the area from increased traffic.

The plan by Parker Strategic Land Ltd also includes new junctions with the A47 and a new road to join Gaulby Lane, with the existing A47/Gaulby Lane junction closed off.

Council planning officers have recommended councillors grant planning permission when they consider the application at a meeting next week.
