Lorry Hits Railway Bridge Again

A lorry hit the railway bridge on Kettering Road in Little Bowden this morning, just minutes after Network Rail workers had completed overnight repairs following a vehicle-strike earlier this month.

As a result the stretch of road either side of the bridge is set to remain closed until at least Saturday while further repairs and checks are made, and discussions take place with Leicestershire County Council, with regard the signage warning drivers of high-sided vehicles about the structure.

When workers returned, they had to caution the drivers of two more lorries that they would be too tall to clear the bridge.

Simon Woodfield, Senior Asset Engineer for Network Rail, told Hfm:: ” We have had to take the decision to close the road under the bridge due to high risk of more vehicles hitting the bridge.

“We really do need drivers to pay attention to road signs and know the height of their vehicles. Bridge strikes are not only dangerous but they also cause disruption and cost a great deal of money.
