London Rail Services Set To Resume After Fatal Crash

Rail services from Market Harborough to London are set to resume on Monday after recovery work at the site of the Bedford train collision was completed.

Network Rail says engineers have finished a complex operation following the crash between two East Midlands Railway trains last Friday, in which driver Shaun Burton died and around 100 people were injured.

The work included removing overhead line equipment, building a temporary access road and using two 110-tonne rail-mounted cranes to lift the trains from the site, before carrying out full inspections and repairs.

Mark Budden from Network Rail described it as a “complex and challenging recovery operation” and thanked engineers for their professionalism and dedication, adding that thoughts remain with those affected and their families.

EMR managing director Will Rogers said the industry was reopening the railway with “profound sadness” following the tragedy, paying tribute to those affected and thanking staff and partners for their work in difficult circumstances.
