Plans have been submitted to convert a former Working Men’s Club in Market Harborough into a 16-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO).

The proposals for the Northampton Road building include internal alterations, a small first-floor extension and the creation of a private courtyard for residents.

Plans have been submitted to convert a former Working Men’s Club in Market Harborough into a 16-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO).

The applicant says most of the building’s external appearance would remain unchanged, although a small number of additional windows are proposed.

Affectionately known as the “Bottom Club” when it was a social club, it closed in 2010 before the premises was converted into offices the following year.

The building, which borders the River Welland and the Memorial Gardens, has stood empty for more than two years and is now listed as “under offer”, having been on the market with its price reduced from an initial £700,000 to £525,000.

Harborough District Council will consider the application.
