Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Urges Drivers To Avoid Floodwater

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is warning drivers not to attempt to drive through flooded areas following recent heavy rainfall.
Flood alerts are currently in force for the Welland Valley, with low-lying land, roads, and paths near the River Welland affected, including areas of Welland Park.

The fire service stressed the dangers of floodwater: “Never drive through floodwater. Even six inches of fast-flowing water can sweep a car away. Two feet of moving water can carry off most vehicles, including large 4x4s. If a road is flooded or marked as closed, turn back and find an alternative route.
“Avoid walking through flooded areas. Fast-moving shallow water can knock you off your feet, and hidden hazards like open drains or damaged surfaces can be deadly.”
Residents are urged to stay safe and plan alternative routes while flood alerts remain in place.
