Investigation ‘On-Going’ After Car Chaos

An investigation is on-going after dozens of people were unable to lock or unlock their cars in Market Harborough in the summer.

The bizarre issue led to chaos in town centre car parks on August 30th and also caused vehicle alarm systems to activate.

It remains a mystery what caused the problem, although it is believed something blocked signals used by remote car fobs and keys.

Some drivers thought there were was a problem with just their vehicle, but quickly became aware of others facing the same issue.

Cllr Phil King has been pushing for answers after he was contacted by someone who was visiting the town that day and is reluctant to return:

The probe by Harborough District Council has involved the authority contacting government agency OFCOM, the regulator for the communications services.

Cllr Darren Woodiwiss, Cabinet lead for Car Parking, said: “The council is aware of this unusual issue that has not been experienced before.

“We are continuing to explore what the cause might have been but to date nothing has been identified.

“There has been no further reported incidents and our civil enforcement team continues to be vigilant in monitoring our car parks.”
