Investigation Launched After Glider Crash

An investigation has been launched after a glider crashed into a tree near Husbands Bosworth yesterday.

Two people were trapped inside, but escaped without injury, after the aircraft came down at the side the A5199 Welford Road, just before 11.30am.

Fire crews rescued the pilot and passenger after first stabilising the glider and using a ladder to get them to safety.

The glider had been flying from the nearby Gliding Centre and an investigation into the crash will be carried out by the British Gliding Association after the Air Accidents Investigation Branch were initially informed.

A spokesman for the Gliding Centre told Hfm: “On Sunday 10^th November, a two-seat glider flying from The Gliding Centre at Husbands Bosworth airfield collided with a tree. There were no third parties involved. Neither of the pilots were injured. The glider has some damage. We are grateful for the timely and expert support of the emergency services. Until the investigation has concluded, we are unable to comment further.”

The A5199 and near-by Sibbertoft Road were closed during the incident.
