‘Internal Review’ Launched Into Country Park Problems

Harborough District’s Council launched an internal review after pathways at a popular country park were not completed in-line with approved plans.

Residents living on the Hursley Park estate in Great Bowden could be left with a bill of £250,000 to fix the issue, as they are now responsible for the upkeep of the 20-acre site off Welham Road.

They say gravel paths, which are breaking up and posing a safety risk, should have been constructed from Tarmac when the park opened in 2019.

The probe will look at how the council liaised with the developer in approving the landscape plan for the area, including a wildflower meadow, which has also not been finished.

Councillors approved the Terms of Reference for the review at a meeting this week.

The report they approved said: “That Planning Committee adopt the Terms of Reference to establish the extent to which the approved detailed landscape plans for Hursley Park have been implemented.

“That a report arising from the review of the implementation of the approved landscape plans at Hursley Park, Great Bowden be brought to Planning Committee for consideration as soon as possible.”
