Hundreds Back Rewilding Project After Funding Axed

Over 900 people have signed a petition backing the Market Harborough Rewilding Project after funding of over £700,000 was withdrawn.

Opposition councillors at Harborough District Council say it was premature to allocate further money before a full business case was approved, leaving the project’s future uncertain.

An online petition was launched by Green party members to show public support for the scheme, planned for at least 100 acres of land near Great Bowden.

Cllr Simon Whelband, leader of the opposition Conservative group, stressed the decision to vote against further funding was not intended to stop the scheme, but to seek more information and full details of the plans before further investment.
