Harborough Actor Posy Sterling Nominated For Bafta Award

Market Harborough actor Posy Sterling has been nominated for this year’s Bafta Rising Star award.

The nomination follows critical acclaim for her lead role in the British film Lollipop, where she plays a single mother who leaves prison and battles her own mother for custody of her children — a performance that has already earned Posy the British Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Performance.

Posy, who attended Welland Park Academy and Robert Smyth Academy and founded the Screen School drama group in Market Harborough, was at London’s Savoy Hotel today to hear the nominations for the Rising Star award, sponsored by EE.

She said: “I’m genuinely overwhelmed by this recognition, and I want to thank BAFTA, EE and all the jurors who helped make this longtime dream a reality. To be recognised here in the UK, where I first began acting and was inspired to dream big, makes this moment all the more special.”

The Rising Star Award, which highlights some of the film industry’s most exciting emerging talent, has previously been won by actors including Tom Holland and James McAvoy.

Posy is one of five nominees, alongside Archie Madekwe, Robert Aramayo, Chase Infiniti and Miles Caton.

The Bafta Film Awards take place on 22 February, and the Rising Star Award is the only category voted for by the public.
