Deal Struck To Run Harborough District Council

A deal has been struck between political parties to run Harborough District Council.

The Greens, Liberal Democrats and Labour have reached an agreement to work together, after the authority was left in no overall control following the local elections.

Liberal Democrat councillor Phil Knowles will be put forward to become leader of the council at tonight’s annual council meeting.

A statement on behalf of the groups says: “We can confirm that the Green Party, Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats on Harborough District Council have an agreement to work together.

“The fuller details on this will be forwarded, in the meantime we are able to confirm that the Green Party, Labour Party and the Liberal Democats will be nominating Cllr Barbara Johnson for the post of Chair at this evening’s annual council and Cllr Phil Knowles to become leader of the Authority.”

The Conservatives, who previously ran the council, will become the opposition group.
