Harborough Volunteers Tackle Grot-Spots

More than a hundred road signs, bins and utility boxes across Harborough have been spruced up thanks to the efforts of volunteers.

Graffiti has been removed from some and others have been given a good clean by the members of the South Leicestershire Litter Wombles.

In addition, residents have provided locations in and around Market Harborough of over 120 pieces of street furniture with graffiti on, which will be passed to those responsible for them.

The team, including Litter-picking mascot Teddington the Bear, have also removed graffiti from bus stops and a garage next to the Cube youth centre at Symington’s Recreation Ground.

Cllr Darren Woodiwiss, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Neighbourhood Services, said: “It’s been great to be involved from the start, chatting with people and inspiring them to join in.

“I think it gives a real sense of civic pride to support the community in such a practical way.”

Final reports of graffiti can be submitted before 12 September to kbtteddington@gmail.com with a photo and location, as tidy-up efforts continue until the end of the month.
