Harborough Urged To Fall Silent For VE Day Anniversary

Market Harborough’s Royal British Legion is urging people to remember the importance of the 75th anniversary of VE Day tomorrow.
Celebrations, including a big one planned for Market Harborough, were cancelled because of the Coronavirus pandemic, so instead many people will decorate their homes to mark the day in 1945 when it was announced the war in Europe was over.
Over 382,000 military of the UK military died during the six year conflict and over 67,000 civilians were killed by enemy bombing.
A two-minutes silence will be held across the country at 11am., which also be observed on Hfm.
John Morley, President of the Harborough branch of the Legion, spoke to Hfm:
Hfm will also be broadcasting Sir Winston Churchill’s famous victory speech at 3pm tomorrow – the exact time 75 years ago the Prime Minister made the radio address to the nation.
