Harborough Town Names Main Stand In Honour Of Lifelong Supporter

Harborough Town Football Club has paid tribute to lifelong supporter Bill Ireland by naming its main stand in his honour.

Bill, who passed away at the end of July, was a familiar and much-loved figure at the Beehive and rarely missed a game, despite being just weeks short of his 90th birthday.

He was also the grandfather of former Harborough Town player Paddy Ireland.

Bill had been looking forward to celebrating his 90th birthday, with the occasion due to coincide with Harborough Town’s first home fixture in National League North against Morecambe on Saturday.

Before the match, which Harborough won 1-0, the club unveiled the new name of its main stand in recognition of Bill’s many years of support.

Everyone attending the game also took part in a minute’s applause in his memory.

The club said Bill’s “unwavering commitment, loyalty and passion” for the Bees would always be remembered.

Harborough Town added he would be “greatly missed by all those connected with the football club”.
