Although the increase is small, it is being highlighted because numbers have been continuing to fall over recent weeks.

The infection rate was 179.1 per 100,000 people (168 cases) in the seven says to February the 11th – up from 173.8 the previous week (163 cases) and above the national average of 148.

303 out of the 315 areas of the country have seen a fall.

The Harborough District is ranked 71st in a list of 325 local authority areas in the country, in terms of highest infection rates.

Corby in Northamptonshire has the highest rate in England, with 250 new cases recorded in the seven days to February 11 – the equivalent of 346.2 cases per 100,000 people.

The data has been compiled by the Press Association based on verified Public Health England data.
