Harborough Man Honoured For Heroic River Rescue

A Market Harborough man has received a national police bravery award after rescuing a toddler from the River Welland.

Nathan Selby jumped into the water in Welland Park on the Saturday before Christmas last year to save one-year-old Charlotte, who had fallen in and was floating downstream.

He managed to pull her to safety before off-duty doctor Alison Caunt gave life-saving resuscitation.

Charlotte was taken to hospital by air ambulance and later made a full recovery.

Nathan, who snapped a ligament in his leg during the rescue, has been honoured by the National Police Chiefs’ Council and spoke to HFM after receiving the bravery award:
