Harborough Councillors Reject Collaboration Plan

Written by on 20th December 2022

Harborough councillors have rejected a plan for the District Council to share a Chief Executive and other senior staff with Melton Borough Council.

The collaboration was turned down by a single vote at a meeting of the full council last night, with 16 councillors voting against it and 15 in favour.

The proposal was set to save nearly £700,000 over three years and the meeting heard how not going ahead with it could risk cuts to services.

However, councillors opposed to the idea expressed concerns about potential implications of the ‘Strategic Partnership.’

After it was rejected, councillors voted for Liz Elliot, Harborough’s interim Chief Executive, to remain in post until the end of February.
