The go-ahead’s been given for a new £1.2m community hall complex in Great Glen, to replace the ageing village hall and adjacent youth centre.
Planning permission has been granted for the demolition of the current buildings on Main Street to make way for the new facility, which will also include a satellite doctors’ surgery.
Great Glen Parish Council has already secured most of the funding needed for the project, including being awarded over £890,000 by Harborough District Council, through the ‘Section 106’ scheme, which is money given by housing developers to improve community facilities.
An application to the National Lottery for the remainder of the money needed is currently being considered.
The Parish Council hope to start work on the project early next year, with the hope the new building will be constructed and open in early 2023.
