Future Of Council’s HQ To Be Discussed

Written by on 9th January 2024

Options which could see Harborough District Council staff leave its historic head office building will be discussed next week.

A review was ordered last year by the ruling coalition administration, because less than 40 workers a day are using the Symington Building after the adoption of hybrid-working following the pandemic.

It has been examining potential alternative uses for the parts of the building currently occupied by the council to bring in additional money, as well as other buildings owned by the authority.

Members of the council’s Cabinet will consider ‘The Symington Building Options Report’ on Monday evening, but the discussion will be held in private as part of it will include commercially-sensitive information.

Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “The report to Cabinet on The Symington Building, which currently houses a range of organisations including the district council offices in Market Harborough, looks at potential options for the future use of the building.

“It is important having taken over the administration that we have the opportunity to review all council assets and look at the role they might play in best providing services to residents and how they might also support our Medium Term Financial Strategy in the years ahead.

“Our prime task and focus, as always, is to do the very best for the community now and into the future. Once it is appropriate to do so, I fully intend to share as much of the detail as is possible.”
