Fraudsters Target Pay & Display Machines

A warning is being issued after fraudsters put fake QR codes on pay and display machines in Lutterworth.
If scanned it takes you to a fake ‘Pay By Phone’ website and requests payment details.

Harborough District Council was alerted earlier today by a driver who was caught out by the scam.
It says it does not use QR codes in any of its car parks and a spokesperson added: “Our officers are in the process of removing the stickers and will check other pay and display locations.
“We do not use QR codes at any of our car parks, so people using a council parking space should never expect to pay by this method.
“The safest way to pay is through the PayByPhone app which is on offer at all council car parks and pay and display locations.
“The PayByPhone app can be downloaded from the Google Play and Apple App Store.”
