Formal Warnings Given To Harborough Shops Caught Selling Illegal Vaping Products

Shops in Market Harborough caught selling illegal vaping products will not face prosecution.

They have instead been issued formal warnings by Leicestershire Trading Standards, after items were seized during a test purchasing operation last month.

Vapes and e-liquids were confiscated for breaching regulations, including how much nicotine they can contain and the packaging they come in.

Products seized will be destroyed

Some of the retailers, who have not been identified, also broke the law by selling vapes and e-liquids to under 18’s and counterfeit cigarettes were also found on sale.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Trading Standards told HFM: “Any business found in possession of illegal tobacco or vapes has been warned of any criminal offences that may have been committed and advised  how to prevent further incidents occurring.

“The tobacco and vapes seized have been surrendered to Leicestershire Trading Standards and destroyed.

“We will continue to monitor and take appropriate action against those who break the law.”

The operation, which also resulted in products being seized from premises in Wigston, followed concerns about an increasing number of children using vapes.
