Flood Support Scheme Extended

A support scheme to help residents impacted by flooding across Harborough is being extended.

It means people in Little Bowden whose homes were affected during the serious flooding last October can now apply for a one-off £500 grant from the district council, to assist with on-going recovery costs.

The fund was initially launched to help those affected by flooding in January which badly affected Great Glen and Broughton Astley, after the government confirmed it would not be offering support.

So far, 49 applications have been received and payments totalling over £18,000 issued.

The extension of the scheme means any resident who suffered internal flooding to their home between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025 can now apply.

Leader of Harborough District Council, Cllr Knowles said: “We recognise how devastating and impactful internal flooding can be for households and to show our ongoing commitment to support our communities we are delighted that we are able to make the one off £500 grant available from the budget to affected Little Bowden residents following the heavy rain on 24 October 2024.

“We will be in contact with the affected properties directly to help them apply for the funding available.”

The expansion of the scheme is being funded from this year’s council budget.
