Floating Market Returns To Foxton Locks

Written by on 3rd April 2026

Foxton Locks will come alive this Easter as the popular Floating Market returns from today.

Visitors can browse a vibrant mix of independent traders aboard their colourful boats, offering crafts, gifts and seasonal treats, all set against the historic backdrop of the iconic lock flight.

The four-day event across the Easter weekend is organised by the Canal & River Trust, which is working with the site’s pubs, cafes and canal museum to organise a programme of fun family activities.

The Floating Market at Foxton Locks

The fun continues throughout April with the Trust hosting a range of interactive events designed to help families get closer to nature this Spring. There will be wildlife walks, pond dipping sessions, family crafts and nature-themed workshops.

The charity is also holding a series of family-friendly fishing activities at Foxton over the spring and summer months. Thanks to the support of local angling clubs and funding raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, participants receive one-to-one tuition from qualified coaches, making it easy for complete beginners to give fishing a go.

Visitors can find out more about the Inclined Plan at Foxton Canal Museum.

Helen Renny, Foxton Locks Site Manager for the Canal & River Trust, said: “The Floating Market is always a highlight at Foxton Locks, enabling people to browse a fantastic range of crafts and gifts in the glorious surroundings of one of Leicestershire’s most amazing historic sites.

“This year it forms part of a really busy Spring programme, with plenty for families to see, do and enjoy. From pond dipping to craft sessions, we want to encourage people to come along, explore the site and spend time together discovering nature and their local history.”

Foxton Locks Inn & The Old Boathouse are getting in on the fun with a kids Easter colouring competition, giving entrants the chance to win a £50 voucher. Throughout April, Cocker Spaniels are the venue’s ‘Breed of the Month’, and their owners will enjoy 20% off bills over £10, plus a complimentary sausage or dog chew for their furry friends.

On Saturday 11 April, families are invited to celebrate the end of the Easter holidays with live acoustic music on the Boathouse decking, free kids’ face painting, and free children’s crafts. Across the Easter period, visitors can also indulge in freshly made doughnuts, Mr Whippy-style ice cream, and handmade pizzas alongside the regular menu.
