Flats Shut Down Over Serious Concerns About Fire Safety

Flats in Market Harborough have been closed down because of serious concerns about fire safety.

The District Council has served an Emergency Prohibition Order on the two flats, located within a converted house on St Mary’s Road.

It worked with the Fire Service and Police to serve the notice, after deeming the properties posed an imminent risk to life.

The Council acted on Friday and says the occupants have been found alternative accommodation.

It was made aware of concerns by a receivership company, who had undertaken an inspection of the flats as part of their process to seek repossession, and the Council then carried out its own inspection.

A spokesperson told Hfm:: “The Council served an Emergency Prohibition Order (EPO) on two flats on St Mary’s Road, Market Harborough, that pose an imminent risk to life due to fire safety.

“We have provided support to the occupants who have all vacated the property and found alternative accommodation.

“An EPO can be used by a local authority, if a property is deemed unsafe, to protect the welfare of tenants.
