Emergency Repairs To Fill ‘Deadly’ Potholes

Emergency repairs have taken place after potholes near Rothwell was branded ‘deadly’ for motorcyclists.

Concern had been expressed about the length of time it was taking highway bosses to deal with the issue, on the roundabout by the sliproad onto the A14 at junction three.

Motorcyclist Rob Garside told HFM he reported the issue several weeks ago and said: “It was getting really bad, particularly for riders not familiar with the area.

“It was becoming a potentially deadly situation as the holes were so deep a rider could easily have hit them and been thrown off their bike.”

North Northamptonshire Council carried out work yesterday to fill the holes and a spokesperson said: We have inspected this location yesterday morning, and works were undertaken yesterday afternoon to deal with the most significant areas of deterioration.

“These works required a temporary, emergency closure of the A14 off-slip, along with traffic management on the approaches from the A6 and B669.

“Following completion of the works yesterday evening, we will undertake a further assessment of the site to ascertain whether further repairs are required.”
