A drunk driver who crashed head-on into another car near Market Harborough has been banned from driving and fined.

Geoff Warren was over twice the legal drink-drive limit when breathalysed by Police at the scene of the collision on the B6047 Harborough Road on September 17th.

The scene of the crash

Two people in the other car needed hospital treatment for their injuries, following the crash near the roundabout by Harborough Innovation Centre just before 10.15pm.

Leicester Magistrates’ Court heard Warren, 39, of Isaac Martin Lane, Great Bowden, tried to flee the scene on foot but was detained by a member of the public until Police officers arrived.

He was banned from driving for 40 months, fined £1,000, ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £400 victim surcharge, after pleading guilty to driving while over the prescribed limit of alcohol.

In mitigation, the Court heard Warren had been getting help for his alcoholism since the crash and was struggling with stress and his mental health at the time, due to a relationship break-up.
