The BMW 1 Series was well alight when firefighters arrived, but they were quickly able to extinguish the blaze.
The incident resulted in long tailbacks, as the westbound carriageway was closed for nearly and hour and the eastbound carriageway also shut for a time, due to drifting smoke.
Fire crews from Desborough and Kettering were sent to the incident.
An electrical fault is believed to have started the fire.
