Drive-In Fireworks Display Cancelled Due To Ponies On Land

A drive-in fireworks display in Market Harborough tomorrow has been cancelled after ‘wild ponies’ were illegally placed on the Showground, where it was due to take place.

Organisers say it is with ‘deep regret’ they have taken the decision, but had to on safety grounds,

Despite legal proceedings being launched by the operator of the site, the Leicestershire Agricultural Society, to get the animals moved, around 12 are still grazing there.

Over 600 tickets had been sold for the event, which had to be postponed last month because of the lockdown, and refunds are now being organised.

It had been organised by Market Harborough-based Roaming Giraffe Events and Komodo Fireworks, with a proportion of money from ticket sales due to go to the Air Ambulance charity.

Hen Bevan of Roaming Giraffe said, “We feel terrible about the situation which is totally out of our hands, clearly we would never want to compromise safety of our customers or the welfare of any animals and it is for that reason we’ve had to cancel, we are so sorry for the disappointment that has been caused.

“We would like to sincerely thank our customers some of whom were good enough to stand by us over the November postponement.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly throughout the week in an attempt to ‘get the show on the road’ but safety is paramount.

“We are in the process of organising refunds and we will publish details in the near future through our social media network.”
