Desborough Schools Among First To Get Free Breakfast Clubs

Three schools in North Northamptonshire will be among the first 750 in the country to trial free breakfast clubs.

Havelock infant and junior schools in Desborough and Gretton Primary Academy will become what is described as ‘early adopters’ of the government’s £7m programme, before a national roll-out.

The clubs will launch in April and provide pupils with free breakfast and at least 30 minutes of free childcare each day, which the government says is worth up to £450 a year to parents.

Rosie Wrighting, MP for Kettering, has welcomed the announcement and said: “It’s a testament to  the schools and the Labour government’s dedication to getting children school-ready so they are able to improve their attendance, attainment and well-being, as well as improving the household finances of local families.”

Schools in Leicestershire have also been chosen to pilot the scheme, although none are in the Harborough district.
