Desborough Man Jailed For Controlling Partner’s Lifestyle

Written by on 29th November 2021

A Desborough man who spent his partner’s earnings and dictated what she ate – and when and how often she slept – has been jailed for 27 months.

Daniel Sih, 41, controlled her behaviour over a period of several years while they lived together in Market Harborough, but his crimes were only brought to the attention of police when he assaulted her last summer.

The victim disclosed numerous incidents whereby Sih had exerted coercive and controlling behaviour., including using her money to go on holiday by himself and buying new watch with her earnings.

Detectives were also told he would verbally abuse her on a regular basis and often became violent – leaving her with bruises.

Sih, of Station Road, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and engaging in coercive/controlling behaviour at Leicester Crown Court.

He was also made subject to an indefinite order, forbidding contact with the victim.

Detective Constable Robin Bonell, from Market Harborough CID, was the investigating officer. He said: “Sih’s victim has shown immense bravery in speaking out about the physical and psychological harm he caused.

“They are no longer in a relationship with one another and I hope that she can now move on with her life and take some comfort from the fact he has been brought to justice and is now serving time in prison.

“Leicestershire Police takes all reports of controlling and coercive behaviour seriously and it’s never too late to speak out. I would encourage anyone who believes they’re a victim – or thinks they know someone who is a victim – to come forward.”
