Day Care Services End At Harborough Community Centre

Day care services for adults with learning and physical disabilities are ending this week at Roman Way Community Centre in Market Harborough.

Leicestershire County Council is stopping its ‘in-house’ provision in favour of offering alternative support services, via the private sector.

It follows a decision taken in 2021, as part of cost-saving changes to its county-wide ‘Community Life Choices’ service.

The authority says it is supporting seven members of staff in finding alternative jobs, to minimise the risk of compulsory redundancies.

It is also reviewing the future of the site, which is home to some other organisations.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council told HFM: “All the people who accessed day services at Roman Way have now been supported into alternative provision.

“We’ve worked closely with all individuals, their families, and their carers to develop care and support plans which best meet their needs and we’re pleased to say the feedback received so far has been very positive.

“We put a strong focus on the well-being of all employees and we’re offering a package of support, including skills and training, to seven staff currently employed within the service in order to maximise their chances of securing alternative employment, and to minimise the risk of compulsory redundancies.

“In relation to the future of the site, it’s too early to say as we’re currently reviewing the arrangements. We’re aware there are other organisations currently operating from the site and we’ll make sure they are fully informed of any developments.”
