David Raises Awareness Of Asbestos-Related Cancer

A former engineer from Market Harborough with asbestos-related cancer is raising awareness of the disease after lawyers secured him financial support for on-going treatment.

David Leatherland, 83, was diagnosed with mesothelioma two years ago after being exposed to asbestos in the 1970s, when he worked in a number of industrial sites.

He has received a substantial undisclosed settlement from one of his former employers, after instructing expert asbestos-related disease solicitors at Irwin Mitchell to investigate whether his exposure and illness was linked to his work history.

David received his diagnosis after beginning to feel short of breath and developing a pain in his chest.

He spoke to HFM and recalled the conditions he worked in:

David, who is supported by friends and his son has undergone five rounds of immunotherapy, followed by chemotherapy, with excellent care from his medical team in Leicester.

The financial settlement will ensure he has access to funding for ongoing private medical treatment in the comfort of his own home.
