Dangerous & Diseased Trees Set To Be Felled

Nearly half the trees in part of Market Harborough town centre could be felled because they are diseased or potentially dangerous.

It follows a detailed survey of the 26 trees in the area adjacent to the Market Hall car park on Northampton Road, owned by Harborough District Council.

Planning permission is needed before any work can take place, because of a Tree Preservation Order on the site, which was previously set-aside for a coach park and a potential site for a community garden.

A spokesperson for Harborough District Council said: “The trees have been subject to a detailed tree survey by an arborist consultant. Planning permission is required because of a Tree Preservation Order.

“The consultant has made several recommendations which includes some felling and crown lift to improve the overall health of the trees on the site. P

“art of this work involves felling four ash trees which are suffering from Ash Dieback.

“Detail of the recommendations is included as part of the planning application submitted to the local planning authority and which is available for public inspection.

“A decision will be taken by planning committee later this year.”
