Cuts Likely To Recycling & Household Waste Site Service

Cuts are set to be made to Leicestershire’s Recycling and Household Waste Site service.
A series of cost-saving measures are being considered, but as yet no details have been announced.

Previously, opening hours at some sites have been reduced to save money.
Leicestershire County Council needs to make savings totalling £420,000 from the service over the next four years and any potential changes to the operation of sites would have to be subject to public consultation.
The authority’s Cabinet was updated on the proposals at a recent meeting, but discussions were not public.
Minutes of the meeting read: “The Panel has made a number of recommendations to the Cabinet which it considers would enable savings to be made from the Recycling and Household Waste Site (RHWS) service, whilst also ensuring that the County Council complies with its legal duties to provide residents in its area with ‘reasonably accessible’ sites and the impact on local residents is minimised.”
