Council Set To Consider Charge For Garden Waste Collections

Residents in the Hfm region served by North Northamptonshire Council could soon have to pay to get garden waste collected from their homes.
The service is currently free for people living in areas previously served by Kettering Borough Council, like Desborough and surrounding villages, although the new unitary authority is considering introducing a charge this autumn.
People living in another part of the council’s area already have to pay.

Cllr Graham Lawman, the Council’s Executive member for Highways, Travel and Assets, said: “Now that we are one council across the North Northants area, we need to ensure there is a consistent service and whether there should be a charge across North Northamptonshire or not, for all our residents and we are now working to make this happen.
“It’s important that we ask people for their views on this as it affects the majority of households in our area and certainly everyone who has a garden.”
A public consultation, to get people’s views on a number of options for the future of the garden waste collection service, is set to be launched before a final decision is made.
