Council Rejects Crematorium Plan
Written by HFM News on 2nd April 2025
Plans to build a new crematorium in the north of the Harborough district have been refused.
Councillors considered the proposal for land near Scraptoft at a meeting last night, but ruled the development would be out-of-keeping with the countryside location and ‘urbanise’ the area.
Applicant CDS Group had proposed the crematorium for farmland off Keyham Lane East, to cater for Hindu and Sikh funerals, saying there was a ‘strong need’ for it.

The meeting of Harborough District Council’s planning committee heard 51 public comments had been received in favour of the application and 34 against.
Planning officers recommended the plan was refused, however after a tied vote by councillors, the decision to reject permission was only made on the chairman’s casting vote.
