Council Plans £250,000 Flood-fighting Fund

Harborough District Council is proposing to allocate £250,000 to help tackle flooding across the district.
The funding, included as a new capital project in the authority’s latest budget plans, would pay for flood investigations and potential improvement works in affected areas.
The draft budget also sets out a number of other proposed investments.
A total of £30,000 has been earmarked to support activities for young people, while £50,000 would fund a new community outreach programme.
Councillors are also set to receive £5,000 each under a one-year Community Grants Scheme – a total allocation of £170,000 – to support projects in their wards.
Other provisions include £70,000 for the Leicestershire Revenues and Benefits Partnership to cover inflationary increases, and £50,000 towards the Market Harborough Governance Review, following December’s approval to undertake a referendum over plans for a town council.
The proposals form part of the council’s wider budget plans, which are due to be considered by councillors later this month.
