Harborough District Council is being encouraged to apply for a share of £200m to encourage more people to walk and cycle.

The Active Travel England fund has been launched by the government to help local authorities pay for schemes like creating more paths in rural areas, safer routes for children to walk to school and improved safety at junctions for pedestrians and cyclists.

Councillor Phil Knowles told HFM he hopes a bid can be put in to fund schemes like creating a better pedestrian and cycle link from Great Bowden to Market Harborough railway station:

Harborough District Council says it is awaiting further information and criteria on the fund, so it can determine whether it can apply.
