Council Considers Extending Powers To Tackle Irresponsible Dog Owners

Harborough District Council is considering extending powers aimed at tackling anti-social drinking and irresponsible dog owners.
Current Public Place Protection orders are set to end soon, after being in force for the past three years.
Irresponsible dog owners are targeted by one of the Orders
They enable Police to seize alcohol from anyone behaving in an anti-social manner in Market Harborough and Lutterworth town centres and arrest them if they fail to hand it over.
The other order gives council officials powers to fine dog owners who fail to clean up after their pets, don’t carry ‘poop bags’ with them or fail to put dogs on leads when requested to do so.
The council is seeking views from residents before deciding whether to extend the orders for a further three years and has launched an on-line survey to get feedback.
