A Market Harborough home care provider is recruiting 50 additional staff to help cope with a big increase in demand because of the Coronavirus pandemic:

Home Instead Senior Care has the ‘caregiver’ positions available immediately.

It says demand for its services have spiralled because of the government’s lock-down rules, including the elderly now spending more time at home, which in-turn that has caused distress, anxiety and worry to many people.

The company says the roles are companionship-based, so people don’t need to have experience and full training will be provided.

They hope the recruitment will also help those who have been made redundant or seen their working hours reduced because of the pandemic.

The principal of Market Harborough’s Robert Smyth Academy says he’s proud of the way staff, students and parents have responded since the school closed to the majority of students.

Dan Cleary told Hfm he has been humbled by the support being offered by parents to their children and to teachers, who are working remotely.

People are being encouraged to use a Community Hub that has been launched by Harborough Council to provide vital help and support to those in particular need during the Coronavirus crisis.

The service will prioritise those deemed most vulnerable and in the most need, like those over 70, people with underlying health conditions and families struggling to cope.

Market Harborough’s foodbank is set to benefit after B&M announced one million pounds worth of support during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The discount retailer is allowing each of its 670 stores to support their local foodbank, with a £1,500 donation of food, cleaning and personal hygiene goods to reach struggling families.
