Coronavirus: Monday’s Local Updates

Over 1,000 small businesses across Harborough have now been given cash from the government’s Small Business Grant Fund, to assist them during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Harborough Council, which is administering payments, has distributed £13,500 in the past fortnight.

It hopes the remaining payments, to just under 500 businesses, will be made in the coming days, meaning a total of £19m will have been handed out.

Care homes in Market Harborough are thanking the community for their support.

The Willows Nursing and Residential Home and Lenthall House have been donated numerous items, including vital PPE equipment, food, chocolates and sweets as well as plants and flowers which they say is making a big difference at the moment.

The Market Harborough Round Table, Harborough-based food firm Sherrifs, Waitrose, the WRVS and The Masjid Umar mosque have been among those to provide donations.

Victims of domestic abuse across Harborough during the Coronavirus pandemic are to benefit from funding of £800,000.

Charities have seen a spike in demand for their help since the lock-down began, with victims being forced to spend more time inside with abusers.

The Hope Project, which provides support across Leicestershire, has been given £700,000, after the county was one of the 75 across England to receive government cash, via Leicestershire County Council.

Meanwhile, Police and Crime Commissioner Willy Bach has allocated a further £100,000 to help victims, and spoke to Hfm:

 

Nearly every street in Kibworth now has at least one person who has volunteered to help neighbours during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Over 800 people have joined the Kibworth Isolation Relief Team since the lock-down began, offering to doing things like picking up shopping and medication for those self-isolating.
