Contingency Plans Drawn Up As Firefighters Balloted For Strike Action

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is drawing up contingency plans in case firefighters strike.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union are being balloted nationally on whether to walkout after rejecting a 5% pay rise.
If they vote in favour, walk-outs could begin in the new year.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service told HFM: “We accept that the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) are balloting their members for strike action, and as an organisation we are planning to ensure that we can still provide a service to the communities of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland should strike action take place.
“Any such service would be greatly reduced compared to our normal response. We hope for an outcome which does not require the response of strike action.”
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service did not want to comment.
