Community Hall in Market Harborough to be Sold

A former church school building in Market Harborough is to be sold.

The St Dionysius Community Hall on Coventry Road has not been used for several months as it requires major investment to make the building safe.

A decision has now been made to sell the building, which was previously used by groups including the Market Harborough Sea Cadets and the Brownies.

Proceeds from the sale will support religious education work among young people in the town.

A spokesperson for the Leicester Diocesan Board of Education said: “It came to light that St Dionysius Hall is held on educational trusts, having formerly operated as a church school. The Leicester Diocesan Board of Education therefore had a statutory duty (under Section 554 of the Education Act 1996) to seek an Order from the Secretary of State to ensure that the value of the site could be applied for the benefit of education within the Diocese.

“The Secretary of State has now made the Order, and preparations are underway for the sale of the hall.

“The LDBE is pleased that the Order makes provision for a proportion of the sale proceeds to be transferred to the local church. This will directly benefit children and young people in Market Harborough.”
