Child Killer Colin Pitchfork Can Be Released, Parole Board Rules

The Parole Board has ruled Leicestershire child killer Colin Pitchfork can be released from prison.
He was jailed for life in 1988, for the rapes and murders of teenagers Lynda Mann and Dawn Ashworth, after their bodies were found in Narborough.
The Board says it is satisfied Pitchfork, aged 61, who was the first to person to be convicted using DNA evidence, is suitable for release, subject to conditions.
Both girls’ families have said on a number of occasions they believe he remains a danger to the public and South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa has been campaigning to keep him behind bars.
Mr Costa has reacted angrily to today’s decision and spoke to Hfm:
A document detailing the Parole Board decision said: “After considering the circumstances of his offending, the progress made while in custody and the evidence presented at the hearing, the panel was satisfied that Mr Pitchfork was suitable for release.”
